Hello, my name is Blanca, I'm 55 years old and, like many of those who decide to write in this section, I have been through this long and terrifying illness. In my case, luckily I am in remission, after seven years.
When I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia I was working, I had no symptom and I kept on going with my normal life until, four years later, the illness started to get more aggressive and I had to undergo chemotherapy for seven months, as well as other complementary treatments.
Two years later, the illness reappeared even more hostile; becoming Richter's Syndrome, for the doctors decided that I had to undergo a bone marrow transplant. I was very lucky for my sister was completely compatible with me.
After a year of treatments and the transplant, I feel completely fine, everything has gone very well and I can only say thank you, to all of those who have been by my side and have encouraged me throughout this year, especially my family, who has been beside me at all times.
I can't thank enough the good care I received, both professionally and emotionally, from the doctors and nurses at the 4th floor of Txagorritxu Hospital in Vitoria, as well as in the 4th floor of Donostia Hospital in San Sebastian.
During all this time I have never stopped fighting and I have never felt fear. I have always shown my best side in front of my family, friends and doctors, what has helped me beat the illness better and has helped the people beside me feel better and comfortable.
My future plans are, like the rest of those who go through a similar experience, to live life enjoying as much as possible, remember everyday how lucky we are, and never forget the experience thanks to which we have seen how much our family and friends love us.
Warm regards to those of you who are going through this illness!
