José Carreras, invested Doctor Honoris Causa in Hungary

Last August 29th, José Carreras, the well-known Catalan tenor, received the distinction of Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Pécs (Hungary). The director of this University, Robert Gabriel, delivered this title to Carreras in an act that counted with the presence of 500 people.

In his acceptance speech, José Carreras remarked how significant the Hungarian musical richness was, of which both Franz Liszt and Bela Bartok are remarkable examples. The latter, a great musician and pedagogue, died of leukaemia. Due to it, our President sent once again his message of solidarity and awareness in favor of all those patients suffering from the disease.

José Carreras has also been awarded the title Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Barcelona (Spain), the Universities of Loughborough and Sheffield (United Kingdom), the University Mendeleyev of Moscow (Russia), the University of Camerino (Italy), the Napier University in Edinburgh (Scotland), the Rutgers University (United States), the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (Spain), the University of Coimbra (Portugal), the National University of Music in Bucharest (Romania) and the University of Marburg (Germany).
