A viva voz is the title of the memoirs in which the tenor form Catalonia recalls his memories from the day in his childhood when he discovered his fascination for singing during the projection of The Great Caruso in a local cinema.  From that moment, stemmed his big triumphs and his work with the best orchestra directors and most famous artists:  Herbert von Karajan, Zubin Mehta, Montserrat Caballé, Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti... till leukaemia arrived, when he was in his best professional moment, and changed his life radically.

After his recovery, José Carreras felt he had to give back all the affection he had received from his fans and doctors and this is how José Carreras Leukaemia Foundation was born in 1988.
