A LITTE CANARIAN
Néstor, dressed up for Canaries Day
Néstor: "Hello! My name is Néstor and I'm six. I'm a fun, cheerful kid, but I'm rather naughty too! On 20th August 2007 I was diagnosed with acute leukaemia at the Hospital Materno Infantil (Mother and Child Hospital) in Gran Canaria.
During the two years following diagnosis, I received treatment but I've been off my medication for the last eight months. If my doctors, nurses and other staff at the onco-haematology ward read this, they'll probably think my plan is still to be Néstor the doctor, safe and simple -but no, it isn't. I've grown up a bit and now would like to be a firefighter or a policeman, as you can also help a lot of people in those jobs; but for now, I'll devote my time to endless learning and playing".
Néstor's family: "Fortunately, Néstor did not need a bone marrow transplant, but we know many children who had one or need one now. Therefore we encourage everyone to donate bone marrow as this is the greatest gift some people will ever have. To those who are already donors, A BIG THANK YOU!
We'd like to offer support to all the people, including relatives, who are going through this ordeal. We'd like to send them positive energy and strength because we know they are needed.
And, let ‘s not forget, a huge thank you to all the people who were with us on this journey, who made the stay and the treatment much more bearable and, whatsmore, made Néstor a happy child. Warm regards and a hug from his family".
