Prof. Evarist Feliu, Vice president
Prof. Evarist Feliu joined the Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol (HGTiP) in 1991, coming from Haematology Service at the Clinic Hospital, where he worked for 20 years under the direction of professors Ciril Rozman and Joan Lluís Vivas Rodillos. During the years 1975-76 and 1981-82 he did research stays at the University of Paris (Beaujon Hospital) and Harvard University (Massachusetts General Hospital). He was Head of the HGTiP (1991-1995), Medical Director of HGTiP (1995-97) and Managing Director of HGTiP (1997-2002). Professor Feliu, during his time as Managing Director of HGTiP, was the creator of the Schools Project, which culminated with the construction of the new Faculty of Medicine of the Teaching Unit of HGTiP (UAB) and the Research Unit of the Research Institute on Health Sciences Germans Trias i Pujol (IICSGTiP).
He directed the Centre of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) (2003-2009) and is currently the University Academic Director of ICO. He was Professor of Medicine at UB and UAB (1985-97) (1997-2007), and is currently Professor of Medicine-Haematology and Hemotherapy of the UAB.
Dr. Feliu is a renowned researcher in the field of integrated diagnostic haematological procedures and methods, especially electron microscopy of cells from blood and bone marrow and the study of the pathology of the spleen, with important contributions to these areas both nationally and internationally.
Moreover, during his service he has led to the creation of very strong research groups in the field of acute leukaemia, lymphomas in HIV positive patients and cytogenetic studies of malignant illnesses of the blood.
He has made contributions to 76 books and has published over 300 articles in Spain and abroad. He was chief editor and vice director of the Clinical Medicine magazine (1983-99), Director of the JAMA journal (Spanish version) (1999-2005) and General Secretary and Chief Editor of the book of Internal Medicine "Farreras-Rozman," (1992 -2000). He is currently President of the Spanish Association of Haematology and Hemotherapy and member of numerous scientific societies and foundations.
Prof Feliu is now de scientific director of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation and the President of the Board of Trustees of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute.
