The ex-president of Spain helped to establish the José Carreras Foundation in 1988. When José Carreras recovered from his illness he decided to create an entity to give back to science and society all the love and support he had received during his convalescence. Felipe Gonzalez worked with him and supported the creation of the Foundation that took the tenor´s name. In addition, the ex-president is an honorary member of the Foundation´s board.
