Núria, Acute Myeloblastic Leukaemia former patient
I am called Núria and I am 33 years old. On the 14th of December 2007 I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia with chromosome 16 inversion. That day I didn't have the strength to go to the work Christmas meal, and I began a completely unknown road for me.
Six months ago I had just got married and was enjoying the relationship, work, friends and family, but that 14th of December shattered everything in an instant.
Fortunately it was only for a moment, because thanks to the unconditional support of Toni, my husband, my family and friends, and the large team of doctors and nurses at the Duran I Reynals Hospital in Barcelona, I was passing through four months of uncertainty and tough treatments. It was a long and difficult process for all, but during those four months I realised that I was surrounded by spectacular people, who had the capacity to never leave me but respect my space.
It wasn't necessary to do a bone marrow transplant. I continued to stabilize and eight months later, I received the greatest proof that I had won my battle against Leukaemia: I had become pregnant!!!
At the time of the leukaemia diagnosis I had one plan for the future: TO LIVE, but now, with my four month old son Martí at home I have another: TO CONTINUE LIVING, BUT TO ENJOY EACH MOMENT.
It is important to enjoy and to savour the good moments in life, because if you become ill, they give us the strength to fight.
With this message I want to support all those people who are experiencing a similar situation to me and to give them hope and show them that it is possible to get over Leukaemia and that, even after such difficult treatments, everything can return to normal.
