On Friday 11th June, Mr. Josep Carreras is named Honorary Member of the European Haematology Association (EHA), for his important contribution to the fight against leukaemia. The nomination will be made during the 4th Congress of the EHA, which takes place in Barcelona between 9th and 12th June 1999.

The EHA has created a prize, which will be awarded annually, called the "Josep Carreras Prize". The first Josep Carreras Prize will be awarded during the above ceremony to Professor Ciril Rozman. Prof. Rozman is Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, vice-president of the Jose Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation and a member of its Scientific Committee. He is considered to be the principal promoter of bone marrow transplants from unrelated donors in Spain.
