Olympics against leukaemia

On the 12th of August 2008, when she was 32 years old, Susana was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. Susan explained: "since that day I said I was going to fight against it because I have plenty of desire to live. I am young and this was not going to beat me. I received many messages of support from family and friends and it is amazing how people have helped me. This support has allowed me to get closer each day to the light at the end of the tunnel".

She was improving little by little in each stage of this "Olympiad against leukaemia", as she called it because it all started during the Beijing Olympics, but in February 2011 Susana suffered a relapse. The leukaemia returned and a transplant became the only hope of a cure. She received an umbilical cord blood transplant and is recovering bit by bit.

The José Carreras Foundation has received many examples ofsupport and love for her and her family throughout this time. "Thanks for being there and making life easier to everyone who has supported us along this tough journey", says Susana. We want to say thank you to Susana and her family and please...keep fighting!!
